I'm fascinated that Bob Wright (writer? academic?) and Jonathon Alter (Newsweek, NBC) require from Mickey Kaus advocacy over analysis. Kaus is a Democrat who likes to criticize Democrats. It drives Wright and Alter crazy.

As with many in academics, many in the media value ideology over logic.

Closing the wagons seems to be expected these days. Not like most conservatives would've had much good to say about McCain a couple of years back...

So nothing to do with this topic at hand but ...

I’m driving to work this morning and come up on the 35 and George Bush Turnpike interchange. From a distance I see what I think is a worker on the top bridge. There appears to be several cars parked up there but I only see one person and I’m wondering what they are working on. Then I see a second person walking up the bridge to where the other person is. Then to my horror as I get right up to it I realize it’s not a worker, but a guy sitting with his legs on the outside of the bridge like he’s about to jump. At this point I panic for about 5-10 seconds wondering if he is going to bail in front of or maybe even on my car – I am directly below him!!! Thankfully that didn’t happen. As I cleared the interchange I see cop cars racing to the scene and ultimately I heard they shut down all traffic in all directions. So apparently I arrived on the scene in the first few minutes of a 90 minute ordeal which did result in him getting talked down. But then I saw this news article and wonder if maybe it would be better if he had jumped?

Then at the office it looks like my company, EDS, is likely to get purchased by HP.

Bizarre day!! Had to share!

Yeeowza, Luther. What an experience!

Gene told me last night about EDS (I got home late from a board meeting). Our fingers are crossed that it only means good things for you.
