Why Does this Shock Me?

How the Times characterizes what he said:
"Mark Steyn, a Canadian author and political commentator, speaking on the Rush Limbaugh show on Wednesday, accused Mr. Obama of trying to create a cult of personality, comparing him to Saddam Hussein and Kim Jong Il, the North Korean leader."
What he actually said:
"Obviously we're not talking about the cult of personality on the Saddam Hussein/Kim Jong Il scale."
According to Steyn, and I believe him.

Update: This is why group think is such a danger in journalism: The Chicago Tribune, the Examiner, The Sacramento Bee, The Las Vegas Sun, and The Irish Times picked up the story.

Here's the clip (provided by the Times story) in which he is absolutely clear.

Nancy, don't you think you are being unreasonable expecting these people to actually read or listen to what people on the right say? What can't they just fill in the blanks in their "file a liberal bias story" mad libs like they've been doing for the past 20 years?

I hope Mrs. Steyn is giving Mark Steyn the support and comfort he needs because surely he's just devastated by being so mischaracterized and misrepresented. After all, don't we all live and breathe by the words of the press?
