The outrage and bafflement over mothers who drink to excess exploded recently, after Diane Schuler, speeding the wrong way on a New York highway, killed four children, herself and three other adults.(Emphasis added.) Only over mothers who drink to excess? I'd think there would be an explosion of outrage over anyone who drinks to excess, at least where safety is concerned.
My guess is Stefanie Wilder-Taylor, the subject of the above link who famously wrote about mixing momming with drinking (cocktail party playdates) and has recently gone cold turkey, is too busy and too stressed and too ambitious. If her husband is coming home at 8 every night, and she can't handle the kids and meeting her writing deadlines without a bottle of chardonnay, perhaps the family needs to rethink their career ambitions or lifestyle ambitions.
Contrary to conventional 1980s wisdom, you can't have it all--with or without children.
By the way, you're welcome! For what, you ask? Why, for giving you my unsolicited opinion, of course!
